Senior Trip to Branson, Mo.

The Bremen Senior Center is hosting a senior trip to Branson, Mo., Dec. 6 through Dec. 12. Cost is $575 and includes bus fare, 10 meals, seven shows and accommodations for six nights. Festival of Trees

The Buchanan-Haralson Library will host the Haralson Historical Society’s Festival of Trees once again this year. This year the society asks that everyone pick a food-related theme to honor the upcoming Smithsonian exhibit, “Key Ingredients: America by Food.” Participants can start setting their trees up on Tuesday, Dec. 1, during library hours. Voting for People’s Choice will start on Dec. 1 as well and run through noon Dec. 5 ($50 prize!). For more information, call Karen Higgins at 678-644-0743.

Memorial service

A holiday memorial service will be Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home in Tallapoosa. Remember your loved one during this service.

Key Ingredients

To keep the Smithsonian Institution’s display “Key Ingredients: America by Food” safe and open to the community, volunteers are needed to serve, as they are able, for the duration of the exhibition. The hours the display will be open is directly tied to how many volunteers join the project. The exhibit will be at the Buchanan-Haralson Public Library from Jan. 2 to Feb. 6. Remembrance service

The Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen will have its annual Remembrance Service, “Light a Tree of Love,” on Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. in the chapel. If you have lost a loved one or friend, who you want to be remembered in this special service, call them by Dec. 4 at 770-537-2375.

Senior dance

There will be a senior dance with a live country band, Ken Rosenberg and Sweetwater Creek, at Punkin’s Place in Tallapoosa, every Saturday night, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. $4 admission. Bring snacks. For information call 770-258-7002.

Tallatoona CAP, Inc.

Tallatoona CAP, Inc. will start our FY 2010 Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program starting Nov. 2 for the elderly population (seniors 65 or older and homebound households) Nov. 2 - 30. Application will be taken from all Segments of the population as follows: Dec. 1 - until all funds are exhausted or program ends. Crisis funds will also be available Dec. 1. These funds are available for disconnects and LP gas tank with 5 percent or less. Energy assistance applicants will be seen Mon.-Fri. by appointment only. Bremen Tour of Homes

Bremen Tour of Homes sponsored by Bremen Junior Woman’s Club will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. There will be a $10 ticket donation to benefit Caring Christmas Program. Tour begins at Sewell Mill. Call 770-214-0836 for ticket and additional info.

Masonic Lodge

The lodge will host it’s Christmas and awards dinner at River Bend on Jacksonville Rd. at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. Meet old friends and make new ones. All brothers, their family, friends and neighbors are welcome. Bring all you can afford to feed.

Blood Drive

The Tallapoosa Community Blood Drive will be from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at the First United Methodist Church in honor of Jo Hart, a retired Haralson County School teacher.

Hands of Creation Inc.

Christmas For Children and Seniors. It’s that time again and Hands of Creation Inc. need your help once again this year. We are in great need of toys but most of all, food for our Christmas food baskets. Not every child has a stocking to fill or a Christmas dinner this Christmas season. The holidays are not only about receiving, but giving. Help us to provide our children and seniors with a Christmas meal / toys toys this holiday season by donating! Food items for drop sites include, corn meal, sage, chicken broth, eggs,potatoes, onions, tea, butter, candy (meat $10 donation), mayo, mac & cheese, cranberry sauce, celery, sugar, green beans, relish, corn, nuts & fruits. Drop sites for food is Gateway Beacon, Bremen Family Dollar, & Piggly Wiggly, Tallapoosa. Haralson County Angel Tree

We are now accepting applications for Christmas assistance for children under the age of 16 who are residents of Haralson County. Applications must be filled out in person by the parent or legal guardian by Dec. 4, at the Commissioners Office 155 Van Wert St., Buchanan. Anyone who wishes to assist with the angel tree or make a donation may come in or contact me at the following numbers. Haralson Co. Recreation Dept.

The Haralson County Recreation Department is holding a Christmas shop Thursday, Dec. 3, at their facility in Buchanan from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fifteen vendors will be on site, with a “sweet shop,” wrapping station and door prizes available for guests. For more information, call 770-646-2029.

Turkey Shoot

Hands Of Creation will be taking applications for Holiday Wishes Christmas Baskets and Toys from Dec.1 to Dec. 15. You can pick up a application at Family & Children Service in Buchanan, Tallatoona of Buchanan, city hall of Tallapoosa, The Bremen Gateway-Beacon, and the Tallapoosa Library.
