Buchanan City Council At-Large

David Dixon

Age: 51; Address: 181 Tallapoosa Street, Buchanan.

Resided in Buchanan for 1 1/2 years and in Georgia for three years

Family: Wife, Melanie, daughter, Erin, and son-in-law, Nick Poulson.

Experience: Drama Teacher at Haralson County High School; also volunteers as head of the Haralson County Performing Arts Alliance and Business Director of the Miss Haralson County Pageant.

Campaign Goal: “The city of Buchanan desperately needs business in the area to create jobs and give kids something to do. My goal is to encourage more businesses to move here for students, and we need to find a way to gain income for the city.”

Robert Farmer

Age: 75; Address: 305 Carrollton Street, Buchanan.

Resided in Buchanan for 45 years.

Family: Deceased wife, two sons.

Experience: Retired inspector for the state of Georgia; also served on the Buchanan City Council for eight years prior to the death of his late wife in 2008.

Campaign Goal: “I think things can run better in the city. While I was on the council, I got a $200 tax break on city taxes when I served, so I want to give citizens 65 and older a tax break because I think about $150,000 could be saved in city government (spending).”

Kenny Hughes

Age: 36; Address: 123 Tallapoosa Street, Buchanan.

Resided city three years.

Family: 7-year-old son.

Experience: Has worked 15 years as an account manager at Atlanta Beverage Company; served in the U.S. Army for four years; Haralson County High School alumni.

Campaign Goal: “To make Buchanan a better place for people to live and visit by establishing more business opportunities.”

McKinley Pate

Age: 33; Address: 542 Wesley Camp Road, Buchanan.

Resided at address for 8 1/2 years and lived in Haralson County for 20 years.

Family: Wife, Stephanie, and three children, Micah, Reese and Gunner.

Experience: Tallapoosa Police Officer; also served as an officer in Buchanan for a year and a half during the 1990s; career spans about 10 years in government.

Campaign Goal: “The main thing I’d like to do is update our water/sewage system (in Buchanan). I understand it’s old, so we need to make sure we provide adequate services in an effort to give our citizens the best resources possible, which they’re paying for.”

Ann Crim

Address: 84 West Mill Street, Tallapoosa.

Resided in the city for 21 years

Family: Married for 32 years with a son and daughter.

Experience: Financial Management Analyst with the city of Atlanta; Tallapoosa Historical Society President; member of the Tallapoosa Better Hometown Program; Board of Directors with the Haralson Chamber of Commerce; served as chair of the Tallapoosa Planning Commission for 10 years.

Campaign Goal: “I volunteer on several committees, and I really try to lead by example. Part of my efforts is to lead, and I’d like to see more of our residents become involved and influence more participation from our community.”

Dan Pope

Age: 54; Address: 170 White Street, Tallapoosa.

Resided in the city for 54 years

Family: Wife, Janet, and five children, three grandchildren and a dog, Ginger

Experience: Retired two years ago after working 29 years as an automotive technical teacher at Haralson County High School; also owns a lawncare business; served on the Tallapoosa City Council from 2001-05.

Campaign Goal: “My biggest interest is having a place for graduates to go to work. We have to invest in our kids, and I want to encourage businesses to come in as well as keep the other business that are currently here.”
