The Haralson County football team put on an offensive showcase and recorded a school record in its season opener with a 42-18 home win over Rockmart.
Rebels quarterback Malik Allah was 11-for-12 for 301 passing yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown.
Blake Poole finished with six receptions for 209 yards and two touchdowns, while Juan Singhavong had 38 rushing yards and 85 receiving yards for Haralson County (1-0).
After the Rebels had a long touchdown called back because of a penalty in the first quarter, a Rockmart fumble led to Allah connecting with Poole for a 48-yard touchdown pass for the game’s first points.
Rockmart fumbled again on its next possession, leading to a 1-yard TD run by John Dobbs.
Haralson County’s Josh Dewberry then intercepted Rockmart quarterback Brandon Haywood’s pass on the Rebels’ 25, which led to a 40-yard touchdown run from Allah. Singhavong added the extra point to give the Rebels a 20-0 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter was highlighted by Allah connecting with Poole for a 95-yard touchdown pass, which set a new Haralson County record.
On the opening drive of the third quarter, a 30-yard pass set-up a 1-yard touchdown run by Singhavong. Allah ran on the 2-point conversion to give the Rebels a 35-0 lead.
Rockmart struck back with 15-yard touchdown run from Haywood, but missed the extra point.
Allah then connected with Singhavong for a 46-yard touchdown pass, with Singhavong adding the extra point for a 42-6 Haralson County lead.
With the Rebels bringing in their junior-varsity defense, Rockmart added a couple late touchdowns.
